Powerscreen Washing Makes Stones Sparkle!

As legislation drives construction contractors to use more and more recycled aggregates, sand & gravel, Powerscreen equipment is leading the way in the fight to reduce, reuse and recycle waste. The progressively higher aggregate specification means many customers need to remove clay and silt from sand and gravel.  So aggregate washing has become an increasingly large part of the aggregates industry.

Powerscreen offer an extensive range of mobile and static washing systems including mobile and static washing screens, such as the Chieftain Rinser Range, Finesmaster sand classification systems, Trident dewaterers, Powerscrub logwashers, feeder units and various stockpiling conveyors to give clean, ready to to use and sell, sand and gravel end products.

The star of any recycling wash plant is the Powerscreen Powerscrub. The Powerscrub 120 R has been designed to work in conjunction with the Powerscreen range of recycling and washing equipment. Specifically designed to work in the recycling industry, its versatility and design enables it to be easily adapted to work in gravel applications. The Powerscrub 120R consists of a trough and two axles running counter to one another with exchangeable blades which intensively process the material by milling and washing it; a trash screen to dewater removed light waste; and an aggregate rinsing screen.

Commercial Recycling Limited Case Study

Commercial Recycling Limited (CRL), in Poole, Dorset recently purchased a complete Powerscreen Washing Plant from Powerscreen Washing Systems, Coventry, including a Powerscrub 120R.  CRL are one of the most technologically advanced and forward thinking companies in the processing of all types of recycling materials.  Powerscreen Washing Systems are the UK’s leading supplier of aggregate washing equipment to the recycling industry.Powerscreen Wash Plant at CRL, Dorset

CRL MD Bill Riddle said, “We approached Powerscreen Washing Systems when we decided to purchase a new washing plant, as we knew they’d help us get exactly the end product we wanted.  The Powerscreen Powerscrub 120R has worked out really well for us.  It really shows its muscle in this plant setup.”

This washing plant was installed by Powerscreen Washing Systems to wash recyclable aggregates in CRL’s plant in Poole, Dorset in October 2006. It includes a number of Powerscreen screening and washing products: Warrior 1400; Chieftain 1400 Rinser screen (40mm top deck, 1/3 2mm and 2/3 5mm bottom deck); Finesmaster 120 twin sand plant; Powerscrub 120R; Chieftain 1400 Dry screen ( 20mm top deck and 10mm bottom deck); and T4026 Mobile Stockpilers and a water treatment system.

To begin with the raw material is pre-screened at 0-40mm, 40-100mm and 100mm+ with the POWERSCREEN Warrior 1800.  The 0-40mm material is then fed to the Chieftain 1400 Rinser where it receives its first rinse and is screened into 0-2mm, 0-5mm, 5-40mm and 40mm+ products.

The 0-2mm and 0-5mm material passes through the bottom screen of the Chieftain 1400 Rinser screen into the one-third/two-third split catchbox where it is gravity fed to the Finesmaster 120 twin sand plant.  These materials are then dewatered and stockpiled via the T4026 stockpilers.

The 5-40mm material which still contains clay conglomerates is fed to the Powerscrub 120R for further scrubbing and washing.  All the light waste material is floated off onto the trash screen located at the rear of the Powerscrub.  The material is dewatered over a small screen and stockpiled.  The waste water is gravity fed into the sump.

As the 5-40mm leaves the Powerscrub it passes along another dewatering screen for a final rinse and then exits onto a transfer conveyor.

The clean material (5-40mm) from the Powerscrub 120 R is transferred to the Chieftain 1400 where it is screened and stockpiled into the following products: 5-10mm, 10-20mm and 20-40mm.Powerscreen Powerscrub 120R clean material at CRL, Dorset

Five clean end products are generated ready for reuse and sale:

            0-5mm – concrete sand

5-10mm – aggregate used for drainage material, low stress concrete & pipe bedding

10-20mm – aggregate used for drainage material, low stress concrete & pipe bedding

20-40mm – aggregate used for drainage material, low stress concrete & pipe bedding
